MOL Group has been a leading supplier in the petrochemical industry in Hungary for more than 50 years.
MOL Group laid the foundations of petrochemical production in 1970, when its polyethylene plant of ICI technology (LDPE-1) came on line. The capacity to produce low density polyethylene, as well as the product range, expanded substantially with the installation of a new plant (LDPE-2) of BASF technology in 1991. The joint annual capacity of the two plants is 120kt/year.
MOL Group uses its vertically integrated production structure to produce raw materials for plastics processing from a variety of hydrocarbons. The production process includes two major stages: producing monomers and polymerisation.
Utilising PHILLIPS process technology to produce high density polyethylene, the HDPE plant of 200kt capacity was constructed in 1986. A new HDPE Plant utilising Mitsui process technology came on line in 2004. The joint annual capacity of the two plants is 400kt/year.
