Medical tubing is used for delivering and removing air, fluid and medication to and from a patient. Respiratory tubing specifically supports a patient to be able to breathe in oxygen and breathe out carbon dioxide. Hytrel® is used in respiratory tubing circuits, and in this case, the exhalation circuit. When you breathe out, warm air comes out of your lungs, into the facemask and down the breathing circuit. This can result in a build-up of condensation in the tube which requires manual disposal.
Hytrel® has a very high moisture vapour transmission rate, or ‘breathable’ properties, which allow moisture to escape through the wall section of the tube, reducing the need to empty the liquid contents manually. Surgical gowns can also be made of Hytrel® for this same reason.
