Distrupol-PreCW

‘Waste plastic’ can be divided into three main categories: industrial waste, post-consumer waste and pre-consumer waste. Pre-consumer waste is waste derived from an industrial process where the plastic item cannot be used again in the same industrial process.

Distrupol-PreCW is made from pre-consumer waste. In particular, the waste derived from the manufacturing process of making contact lenses. The polypropylene moulds used in the production of contact lenses cannot be used again due to risk of contamination and are usually disposed of after use. However, we are able to salvage this material and process it back into granules/flakes for injection moulding. This makes it possible to reintroduce manufacturing ‘scrap’ back into the manufacturing process, thus reducing plastic waste.
