Distrupol's history dates back to the early 1960s.

Though our name may have changed, our fundamental principles of providing innovative and superior polymer solutions and oustanding customer services have never faltered. We have gone from strength to strength in our 60 years of operation; which has seen us acquire successful businesses in Ireland, the Benelux and the Nordics, secure distribution agreements with some of the industry's leading material producers and join powerhouse groups whose resources have enabled us to become even more far-reaching in terms of our capabilties.

As we enter our 6th decade as a business, we are proud to have become an industry leader in the sales and application development of thermoplastics and elastomers. 

Plastic itself has had a rather impressive history which has certainly shaped the world as we know it today.

It started in the 1800s with the discovery of polystyrene in 1839, accidental synthesis of PVC in 1872 and synthesis of polyethylene in 1898. The 20th Century saw the invention of Bakelite - the first fully synthetic thermoset in 1907, the productions of neoprene in 1930 and nylon in 1938 by Dupont™, and then polycarbonate and polypropylene in the 1950s.

Now in the 21st Century, plastic is the most widely used material with multiple industries heavily reliant on the positive attributes it provides. However, we now face new challenges in the industry, as the irresponsible disposal and misuse of plastic has become detrimental to our environment. Here at Distrupol, we view 2020 and beyond as the 'new age' of plastics. Where innovative solutions, such as engineering biopolymers, water-soluble polymers and plastics made from recycled sources like contact lenses, provide sustainable and environmentally-friendly ways of reaping the benefits of plastic whilst protecting our planet.

We've lived the history; it's been quite a journey. Now it's time to be part of the future.
