EV Battery busbars are an alternative method to cables to link the many battery cells together, allowing the voltage to pass from all the batteries to the source where it is needed. Busbars also provide many benefits compared to cable:
- More secure in their location as are mechanically locked in place
- Less chance of being trapped, damaged and short circuit as a result
- Faster installation
- More compact in design
Basic requirements for most EV battery module bus bars polymers can vary, but center around:
- Structural rigidity and good mechanical strength
- Electrical insulation properties at temperature
- Sometimes, chemical resistance to cooling fluids for immersion cooled systems
- Non-halogenated flame retardancy
- High melt temperature to help resist thermal runaway issues
- Options to be supplied in EV standard colours (orange, grey and black)
Crastin® FR684NH1 is the ideal material for this application:
- 25% glass fibre filled PBT
- Melt point of 223ºC
- Tensile modulus of 11,100 MPA
- UL94 V0 rating of 0.75mm
- Dieletric strength of 35 Kv/mm
- CTI Rating of 600v
