Conveyor belts and their links are a natural fit for Delrin® acetal because of the polymer’s inherent mechanical strength and low wear and friction properties. Some food processing conveyors also benefit from its dimensional stability, even when submersed in water, as some lines are submerged to clean food.
Some Delrin® grades are food safe, which is an additional benefit for this particular conveyor application is that as they are food safe to EU 10/2011 and FDA regulations. In addition, grades can be recommended that are x-ray and metal detectable to provide protection in case the food is contaminated, even if the contamination is very small in size (over the size of a 3mm3).
Compared to acetal copolymer, Delrin® acetal homopolymer offers higher tensile strength, stiffness, creep and fatigue resistance, and significantly higher impact resistance. The extra mechanical properties of Delrin® allow for parts to be made thinner and smaller, whilst delivering the same performance of a thicker, less compact copolymer acetal moulding.
