Hytrel® can also be used in wire and cable applications as a modification for PVC compounds. As a high molecular weight copolyester elastomer, it can easily be blended with PVC to gain specific advantageous properties for wire and cable applications.
Spotlight on Hytrel®:
- Helps to prevent flex fatigue and the cracking of cables
- Improves chemical resistance
- Improves impact strength
- Improves low temperature flexibility and impact
- Provides additional softness
- Improves sustainability profile because Hytrel® is phthalate-free
- Hytrel® is a non-migratory system as opposed to traditional migrating plasticisers found in PVC
Applications well suited to Hytrel® modified PVC include:
- Protective jackets for hose and tubing – cost effective alternative with extended operating temperature range
- Automotive wire and cable – potentially resistant to under-bonnet temperatures
- Flexible PVC pipes – improved long-term performance and flexibility over a range of temperature. Food approved grades available
- Coil cable - improved elastic memory and flex fatigue performance
