Smart watches and fitness trackers are a staple component of 21st Century health and fitness. Integrated with other pieces of technology such as your mobile phone, trackers and watches are used to count your steps, track your workouts and contribute to a healthy lifestyle.
Whilst there are many competing brands in the arena, all wearable fitness trackers need to be robust enough to withstand daily life and exercise. The bands in particular need to be long-lasting and comfortable despite being exposed to water (sweat), dirt, chemicals from personal care products and user contact.
Hytrel® TPC-ET is the preferred material for this application when compared to rubber elastomers due to its chemical, water and dirt resistance whilst being flexible and durable.
Softer Hytrel® grades in the 70- 75 Shore A range provide superior abrasion resistance versus standard soft Hytrel®. These grades have similar hardness but different densities to meet the tactile requirement for a quality watch strap (higher density) versus a mobile fitness band (lower density).
