Hytrel® thermoplastic elastomer can be used for the hinge component in snowshoes, which enables even weight distribution over the entire ‘shoe’. This is what helps the user to maintain balance and prevent sinking when travelling across snow terrain.
Due to the stability of Hytrel® between temperatures of 23°C and -30°C, and its extreme fatigue endurance, it is the optimal product for this application which is obviously exposed to very low temperatures. Hytrel® can be repeatedly flexed without cracking or breaking, unlike its rubber counterparts.
Additionally, Hytrel® is well suited to geometric moulding – which can be hugely popular with innovative designers. The super flow properties of Hytrel® means that it can be moulded in a range of thicknesses to provide a variation of stiffness and flexibility.
